Methodology
The CPI-Elypsis (eICP) is constructed from a sample of 300,000 daily price online relieved, from more than fifty sources, and including estimates of more than 500 individual categories.
The information is downloaded and processed continuously, which gives us a detailed measurement, real-time pulse of inflation.
The online sample is complemented with items of estimate and survey less frequently: public transport, fuel, electricity, gas, water, fixed telephony and cellular, tolls, Internet services or cable TV, rents, postal service, newspapers and magazines. We also use our index as input for the results of the survey of health and private education monthly conducted among more than a hundred sources.
Taken together, our price index covers about 90% of the basket of the new national price index Urban recently published by INDEC.
To estimate the price indices for variety use all products rated for that variety in all available sources. The index is calculated from the geometric mean of the variations of all products. This selection of the sample differs from the methodology used by INDEC. While INDEC selected at each source, only the best selling product of each variety, our measurement incorporates all products. Thus, measurement of our index offers an extensive variety representativeness in terms of presentations, trademarks, etc.
While the categories of eICP are weighted based on the weight of IPCNu base 2012, the report INDEC estimates is also presented based on the composition of the basket of the new Price Index Government of the City of Buenos Aires (eICP - CABA), based 2004.
Methodological notes
The indices published in this report are preliminary EICP can, for methodological reasons, retroactively change (eg incorporation of a new source with new historical information). A small group of items (fuel, rents) is added to the index with a lag of about a month. Also, to those areas allocated manually (mainly public and private health services and education) the update frequency is monthly, and its variation attributed evenly between weeks making up the reference month.
The weekly data is the average of daily estimates from Monday to the following Sunday.
Taken together, our price index covers about 90% of the basket of the new national price index published by the INDEC Urban.
